URBAN II Operational Programme
Ballyfermot, Dublin, Ireland
2002-2008
In 2001 Dublin City Council successfully secured the Urban II Operational programme for Ballyfermot.
Ballyfermot was one of approximately 80 areas
across the EU member states to receive Urban II
funding, and was Ireland’s only Urban II Programme.
Urban II was aimed at facilitating sustainable
development in the disadvantaged urban
communities of the European Union through the
design and implementation of targeted innovative
models of economic and social regeneration.
Ballyfermot was selected because of its strong and
vibrant community, a community with many years
experience of working together to bring about
positive change in cooperation with local
government, statutory agencies and other relevant
stakeholders.
The programme has been co-financed by the
European Regional Development Fund, The National Development Plan 2000-2006, and by the Managing Authority for the Programme, Dublin City Council.
During the consultation phase of the programme, 4 priority areas of funding were identified:
1. Community Participation
2. Civic Services Integration
3. Infrastructural Development
4. Youth and Family
Under each priority a series of measures were
agreed, all aimed at addressing the needs of the
local community.
The URBAN II Programme came to a close in 2008, and all projects are now complete. Many of these projects have successfully secured funding and will continue to bring about positive change in Ballyfermot into the future. |
